When you meet somebody for the first time, one of the first things they do is ask you what you do for a living.
I really enjoy the look on people's faces when I tell them that I give away free water coolers for a living.
Most people give the obligatory chuckle, and then once they've actually processed what I've said, they normally have a confused look on their faces. So I repeat myself...
"I give away free water coolers for a living."
"How does that work?", most people ask.
It's really simple, I work for a company called Aqua-Cool Home Delivery. Our mission is to encourage New Zealanders to drink more water, and as part of that we're running a promotion where we put free water coolers into people's homes.
What's the catch?
There's no catch really, all you need to do is buy one 15L bottle of water per fornight. The way it works is that we retain ownership of the cooler and as long as you purchase at least one bottle a fornight, you get the water cooler in your home for free on loan.
Gee, that's not too bad then, how much does the water cost?
This is probably my favourite question, because it's so affordable.
We do three different kinds of bottled water, the most popular one - Aquafresh - is $15 a bottle, that's $1/L (a dollar a litre), delivered to you door.
We have other options, one is a spring/mineral water called Mineral X and the other one is the one I have in my own home, Vita Blast. It's a lemon/lime flavoured water with no sugar that has Vitamin C added. The taste is very soft, a lot like a non-coloured sports.
